Hoerbiger ePrAX Hybrid press brakes, The electrohydraulic ePrAX®control press system developed by HOERBIGER close the gap between the valve controlled ePrAX®basic and the servo driven ePrAX® solutions
for press brakes. This systems is the consistent further development of servo driven press brake systems from
HOERBIGER.
It is an electrohydraulic system which combines the advantages of both drive technologies: Unlike an electric drive, it is powerful and durable thanks to hydraulics, but owing to the compact design dispenses with no external oil lines, making it clean and leakage free to operate, because all the components, are compactly integrated on the cylinder.
The ePrAX®control translates the electrical input from the machine controller (CNC) in to mechanical linear motion*. To accomplish this, the machine controller communicates with the axis controller and subsequently with the motor controller.
The synchronized cylinders follow preselected profiles, consisting of a working motion or a rapid motion, using
controlled tracing. The drive controls the position of the bending tool - and its force during stamping - with a speedvariable motor-pump unit.

IRIS is an Integrated Real-time Imaging System that provides press brake manufacturers with greater functionality by combining high performance optical protection with real time image processing. Available in two models, IRIS and IRIS Plus systems comprise a laser transmitter and receiver set mounted to the upper beam of the press brake. Each model includes a high speed digital camera and image data processing system contained within the receiver unit.

Features

The image data processed by IRIS can be used to implement a wide range of additional user features in the CNC press brake system through development of custom software applications. IRIS requires custom integration with the CNC press brake system by the press brake manufacturer and the functionality and features will differ depending on the CNC press brake  system used and how the overall process is implemented by the manufacturer. Advanced functions will require the manufacturer to develop supporting CNC press brake system software.

Bend speed management

The European press brake standard EN12622 mandates that bending speed be restricted to 10mm/s. This speed restriction provides a general level of safety by managing the speed at which the material facing toward the operator moves during bending. However in the machinery directive and EN12622 there are clauses that provide a basis for faster bending speeds with wider V dies, provided certain operations can be properly monitored.

In the CNC pressbrake safety bending system the manufacturer can set a faster bend speed for larger width V dies. To facilitate a safe condition for faster bending the bend speed management process provides automatic monitoring of the speed at which the material facing the operator moves through its bending arc. To do this, IRIS processes real time images of the bending process and calculates the angular velocity of the moving sheet to measure the speed at which the part is being formed. If the angular velocity with a wider V die is sufficiently less than the speed when using narrower V dies then a faster bending speed is permissible. This calculated speed is compared with the die width programmed in the CNC and if within the angular velocity threshold, allows the machine to continue bending the material at a speed greater than 10mm/s.

Bend speed management continuously monitors the bending process so in the event the angular velocity exceeds the maximum threshold or the operator selects an incorrect die width then the machine is stopped and the bend can be completed at 10mm/s.

As a combination system, both IRIS and IRIS Plus models provide high performance optical protection while the tools are closing at high speed, then once the bending process starts, the optical imaging function takes over. During bending, the systems take and process images in real time and transfers data to the CNC system via SmartLink. The image processing system and software is fully contained within the IRIS and IRIS Plus receivers so no additional processing hardware or software is required. 

IRIS and IRIS Plus optical imaging is a flexible, open platform technology that enables the press brake manufacturer to utilise the real time image data (via SmartLink) to implement a variety of user features in the CNC system such as Bend Speed Management, Dynamic Angle Control, Active Angle Control plus much more.
