CNC Press brake offline software brings intelligence to press brakes

Sheet metal parts bending process simulation enables tryout of part forming in a fraction of the time needed for an operator to do the physical setup.

Press brakes Bending  simulation software calculates the possible bend sequences and automatically checks for part interferences with tooling and machine components. After the technician accepts the simulation, the software automatically generates a part program, complete with optimized ram settings and backgauge positions.

Press brake Tool Libraries. Using a tool library to store all press brake tool dimensions enables an operator to calculate ram reversal positions automatically to speed up angle adjustments.

The software may allow the programmer to create custom tool libraries containing just those tools in inventory. This ensures that the program specifies only those tools with the correct cross section.

Press brake Angle mode bending. 2D Offline bending software provides an angle mode for air bending that uses the material thickness value and the selected tool dimensions stored in the tool library to calculate the ram reversal position automatically. This eliminates the need for the operator to work out, on a trial-and-error basis.

Bending angle correction, these are made in angle mode by measuring and entering the actual angle produced from the last stroke. After the operator enters the actual angle results , press brake offline software automatically calculates the adjusted ram reversal position.The angle correction can be applied to all steps in the program or just the individual step.

Sheet Metal Material Springback and the Benefits of Large press brake V dies

Every sheet metal material has springback that requires compensation. In air forming, a bend is free-formed to the required angle plus springback. As the forming pressure is released, the material springs back to the required angle, normally stainless sheet will have big spring back angles than mild steel sheet bending, high tensile strength sheet ahve the most big spring back angle, around 15 degrees.

Springback can be compensated for in two  ways. The first is through punch and V-die angles. For example, bottom bending H-series aluminum, which has 1.5 to 2 degrees of springback, requires an 88-degree top punch  with a 90-degree bottom dies to bending 90 degree metal parts. The top punch bending angle allows the material to be formed up to 92 degrees before being forced back to 90 degree.

For air bending, a 90-degree bend is made by forcing the material to 90 degrees plus the springback. The pressure is released and springback to 90 degrees.
